In addition to my production work, I teach in the Communication Arts Department at Florida International University and am finishing my Ph.D. dissertation at the Department of Communication at the University of South Florida at Tampa.
My primary academic interests are media studies and rhetoric. I am especially interested in documentary production as an intentional, self-conscious use of electronic media to influence audiences at the level of core values and world-view.
I am also interested in the philosophy of communication, the impact of digital media forms on communication, media convergence, and good old-fashioned oral communication.
At FIU I teach Business and Professional Communication, Public Speaking, and Artistic Expression in a Global Society. Courses I taught at USF include Electronic Field Production, Public Speaking, and Gender, Communication and Identity. I taught Visual Literacy at the University of Tampa, and have taught Religious Images in Film at Webster University in St. Louis.
